ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RISKS
I understand that volunteering at a CARES Foundation wellness pet event may involve direct or indirect interaction with animals, including dogs, cats, and other companion animals. I acknowledge that animals may behave unpredictably, particularly when they are frightened, stressed, injured, ill, or unfamiliar with their surroundings.
I understand that participation in the event may involve risks including, but not limited to:
* Animal scratches or bites;
* Animal-related bodily injury;
* Falls, trips, or other accidents caused by or occurring around animals;
* Exposure to animal saliva, bodily fluids, feces, urine, or other potentially infectious materials;
* Allergic reactions;
* Accidental injury resulting from handling, restraining, transporting, or assisting with an animal; and
* Other risks inherent in participating in an animal wellness event.
I voluntarily accept and assume these risks associated with my participation.
SAFE ANIMAL HANDLING
I agree to exercise reasonable care, sound judgment, and appropriate discretion whenever interacting with or handling an animal during the event.
I understand that I should never attempt to handle, restrain, approach, or assist an animal if I am uncomfortable, uncertain, or believe doing so may place myself, the animal, another volunteer, or another person at risk.
If I am unsure how to safely handle an animal, I agree to stop and ask a CARES Foundation staff member, veterinarian, veterinary professional, or designated event supervisor for assistance.
I agree to follow all instructions provided by CARES Foundation personnel and to immediately report any bite, scratch, injury, accident, or other safety concern to an event supervisor.
RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I hereby release, waive, discharge, and agree not to hold liable CARES Foundation, its officers, directors, employees, veterinarians, veterinary professionals, volunteers, agents, representatives, organizers, sponsors, and affiliated persons or organizations (collectively, the “Released Parties”) for claims, demands, damages, losses, costs, or expenses arising out of or relating to my participation in the wellness pet event, including injuries or damages resulting from animal behavior.
This release includes, without limitation, claims arising from animal bites, scratches, bodily injuries, falls, allergic reactions, or other injuries or losses associated with interaction with or proximity to animals, except to the extent that such liability cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
I understand that CARES Foundation cannot guarantee the behavior, health, temperament, or predictability of any animal participating in the event.
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
I acknowledge that I am responsible for exercising appropriate judgment and following established safety procedures while volunteering.
I agree that if I am uncertain about an animal's behavior or about how to perform a task safely, I will ask for assistance rather than attempting the task on my own.
I understand that I may decline or discontinue participation in any activity that I reasonably believe presents a safety risk to me or others.
MEDICAL CARE
If I sustain an injury during the event, I understand that I should immediately notify CARES Foundation personnel and seek appropriate medical attention.
I understand that CARES Foundation does not provide medical insurance or guarantee payment for medical treatment arising from injuries sustained while volunteering, except where otherwise required by applicable law or expressly agreed to in writing.
VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION
I confirm that my participation as a volunteer is voluntary. I have had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the event and the risks associated with volunteering.
I have read this Waiver, Release, and Acknowledgment of Risk, understand its contents, and voluntarily agree to its terms.
I acknowledge that I understand the potential risks associated with volunteering at a wellness pet event and agree to follow CARES Foundation's safety and animal-handling instructions.
